One Day International Seminar on Biotechnological Advancements in Biological Science

The Department of Biotechnology, Faculty of Science and Humanities, SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Ramapuram, India, organized a one-day International Seminar on Biotechnological Advancements in Biological Science. This event was held in association with the Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin, Malaysia, and Laureate Institute of Pharmacy, Himachal Pradesh Technical University, India, on May 23rd, 2024.

  • The seminar witnessed an impressive participation of around 375 registered attendees from across the globe, joining the session through both Zoom and YouTube Live.
  • The inaugural session began with a warm welcome address by Dr. Kamaraj, Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Biotechnology. Dr. Suresh S, Assistant Professor of Biotechnology, elaborated on the conference’s objectives and significance.
  • Dr. M. Venkatramanan, Dean (S&H), SRMIST Ramapuram, delivered a special address, congratulating the department for organizing the seminar in grand association with UniSZA, Malaysia, and LIP, HP. Dr. Mahendra Singh also delivered a special address, elaborating on the advantages and growth of biotechnology in the pharmaceutical industry.
  • The inaugural address was given by Dr. Harmy Bin Mohamed Yusoff, Dean, Faculty of Medicine, UniSZA, Malaysia. He highlighted the recent technological advancements in genetic tools like CRISPR, and AI tools, which significantly aid in identifying human diseases and are extensively used for healthcare purposes in health sciences.
  • Following the inaugural session, a vote of thanks was given by Dr. G. Priya, Assistant Professor of Biotechnology.

The seminar featured four distinguished invited talks:

  • First Invited Talk (9:00 AM IST): Dr. Saravanan A/L A Dharmaraj, Associate Professor, Faculty of Medicine, UniSZA, Malaysia, delivered a talk on the “Functional Analysis of Obesity-Related Genes Selected by Chemometric Analyses of Gene Expression Data from Mice Fed a High-Fat Diet.”
  • Second Invited Talk (9:45 AM IST): Prof. Dr. M. S. Ashawat, Director cum Principal, Laureate Institute of Pharmacy, HP, discussed the evolution of biotechnology in the context of personalized medicines.
  • Third Invited Talk (10:30 AM IST): Prof. Dr. Kapil Kumar, Director, Samrat Prithviraj Chauhan College of Pharmacy, Kashipur, Uttarakhand Technical University, Dehradun, Uttarakhand, India, spoke about the “Role of Pharmaceutical Science in Addressing Global Health Challenges.”
  • Fourth Invited Talk (11:15 AM IST): Dr. Ahmad Najib, Associate Professor of Natural Product Chemistry, Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Muslim Indonesia, focused on “Cordia Myxa L.: The Potential Plant as an Antidiabetic.”
  • The seminar concluded with remarks by Dr. Vinothkumar, Assistant Professor of Biotechnology. The entire session was efficiently coordinated by Dr. A. Ancy Jenifer, Assistant Professor of Biotechnology.
  • Overall, the seminar was a significant success, providing a platform for fruitful discussions and knowledge sharing among participants from diverse backgrounds.
