Report on Bridge Course
The Department of Computer Science and Applications (B.Sc.) organized the Bridge Course for III-year B.Sc. (Computer Science) Students from 20/06/24 to 21/06/24. This bridge course is intended to raise awareness of web development by providing practical knowledge. Here is a brief report of sessions conducted on Day 1 (20/06/24) and Day 2 (21/06/2024).

Day 1 – Forenoon Session – Front-End Development
Time: 10.30 am to 11.30 am
Resource Person: Dr. J. Jebamalar Tamilselvi, Associate Professor, Programme Coordinator,
B.Sc. Computer Science and Cyber Security Programme
The session began with an introduction to the basics of front-end development and its role in the web development process. The speaker emphasized the importance of HTML structures and semantic elements, along with Cascading Style Sheets (CSS). She also provided a practical demonstration on how to build a basic webpage.
Day 1 – Afternoon Session – Mastering JavaScript Fundamentals
Time: 02.00 pm to 3.30 pm
Resource Person: Dr. G. Savitha, Assistant Professor, B.Sc. Computer Science
The session started with the basics of JavaScript fundamentals. During the session, the speaker highlighted JavaScript syntax and datatypes, interactive web elements, and DOM manipulation. She provided a practical demonstration of creating dynamic web content with JavaScript.
Day 2 – Forenoon Session – PHP Fundamentals
Time: 10.30 am to 11.30 am
Resource Person: Mrs. T. Kanimozhi, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science
The session began with an introduction to PHP, an open-source scripting language. The speaker emphasized the importance of PHP in generating dynamic web page content, collecting form data, and sending and receiving cookies. She also provided a practical demonstration of how to build a dynamic web application.
Day 2 – Afternoon Session – Backend-End Development Essentials
Time: 02.00 pm to 03.30 pm
Resource Person: Mrs. J. Muthuselvi, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science
The session began with an introduction to back-end development and the skills required to become a back-end developer. The speaker explained the role of a back-end developer and highlighted the elements of the back end of a website. She pointed out that, a successful roadmap in backend development will start from the base itself i.e. in-depth knowledge of programming languages, and will go along to applying it in real projects.
