Summary of the Event:

The First Year Orientation Programme for freshers of MCA (General and Gen-AI) was hosted by the Department of Computer Science and Applications (MCA), Faculty of Science and Humanities at SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Ramapuram.

 

The Head of the Department delivered an insightful overview of the Master of Computer Applications (MCA) program, highlighting its comprehensive curriculum and the vast opportunities it offers in the field of Computer Science.

 

Dr N Krishnamoorthy Assistant Professor – MCA presented the welcome address and he welcomed the chief guests of today’s function. He discussed about the purpose of this event such as the expectation of the company from a student.

 

Dr. D. Kanchana Program Coordinator explained about the rules and regulations of the institution to the first-year students. She also explained the structure of syllabus and its courses.

 

Class Coordinators presented about the curriculum, attendance, and other aspects of co-curricular activities.

 

Technical Session

Mr.J Kattheesan and Mr M  Rajkumar Conducted interactive session with Students. They then shared the things that we are going to do in future in the industry. The resource persons explained the importance of technology, emphasizing how it has transformed every aspect of modern life. They also pointed out how technology enhances efficiency, improves communication, and drives innovation across various industries. In addition they explained where software is used, highlighting its ubiquity in everyday activities. From banking and healthcare to education and entertainment, software applications are integral to the functionality of numerous sectors.

They provided examples of software in action, such as financial management systems, electronic health records, and e-learning platforms. They then explained the 6-step process for application development:

  • Collecting the requirements
  • Do mockups using mockup tools
  • Decide the type of application (desktop, web, or Android app)
  • Develop the application
  • Test
  • Deploy
  • Get feedback from customers

They concluded the session by enhancing the students knowledge about front-end, back-end, and database in a comprehensive manner. He explained that the front-end is the user interface that users interact with, while the back-end consists of the server, application, and database that work behind the scenes to process requests and deliver responses. The database is where all the application data is stored and managed. They provided an explanation of libraries and frameworks, clarifying their roles in software development.

Also talked about cloud computing, highlighting its advantages such as scalability, cost efficiency, and accessibility. Then explained how cloud services like IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS provide different levels of control and management for developers and businesses.

Then the entire session was opened to the audience for clarification of their doubts .
