On the Occasion of World Nature Conservation Day 2024, Department of Biotechnology, Faculty of Science and Humanities, SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Ramapuram has organized a special talk on “Macroalgal Biodiversity and its Cultivation” on 27.07.2024 by Dr. R. Rajkumar, Assistant Professor, Department of Environmental Sciences, Bharathiar University, Coimbatore. The talk was formerly start with welcome address by Dr. M. Kamaraj, Associate Professor and HoD, Department of Biotechnology, FSH, SRMIST, Ramapuram.
Some of the highlights of the industrial visit are
- Various divisions of seaweeds such as Phaeophyceae, Chlorophyceae and Rhodophyceae.
- The need for seaweed farming.
- Nutritional values of seaweeds such as Ulva, Enteromorpha, Mosostroma, Laminaria, Alaria, Sargassum, Padina, Porphyra, Rhodymenia and
- Various methods adopted for cultivation of Seaweed.
- Production of Indian seaweed and edible seaweed.
- Climate change and carbon footprint.
The session was opened for discussion, participants were actively discussed with resource person and clarified their doubts. The talk was successfully ended with Vote of Thanks by Dr. G. Priya, Assistant Professor, Department of Biotechnology, FSH, SRMIST, Ramapuram.
