The Art of Storytelling with Director Mari Selvaraj
The Department of Visual Communication and Film Tech, Faculty of Science and Humanities at SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Ramapuram Campus in association with SS Music organised an event ‘The Art of Storytelling with Director Mari Selvaraj’ on 2nd August 2024, in the Gallery Hall, 4th Floor, Block 5. The Chief Guest, Director Mari Selvaraj was welcomed by our institution’s dignitaries: Dr. C. Sundar, DEAN S&H, Dr. V.Dhilipan VP Admin and Dr. V. Prabakaran, HEAD/Media Studies.
The event commenced with the welcome address delivered by our Head, Media Studies, followed by Director Mari Selvaraj’s speech and interactive session with the students. It was a dynamic and interactive session, he shared his experiences and insights into the art of storytelling and also discussed his creative process, the importance of narrative structure, and the role of visual metaphors in enhancing a story’s impact. The session encouraged students to incorporate socio-cultural themes into their work, promoting socially responsible storytelling. Throughout the session, Director Mari Selvaraj generously shared his extensive knowledge and experience in filmmaking, scriptwriting, and direction. He explored the nuances of storytelling, emphasizing the importance of character development and the technical aspects of film production.
The program was co-convened by Ms. Yuvarani, Proramme Coordinator, Viscom and Mr. Shanmugananthan, Programme Coordinator, Film Tech. The coordination of the event was overseen by Ms. P. S. Padmavathy and Ms. Haripriya, Assistant Professors, Viscom. The event was recorded and later broadcast on SS Music YouTube Channel.
