Event: Bridge course for the first year Biotechnology students 2024-2025

The Department of Biotechnology has organized the bridge course for the first-year Biotechnology students for the academic year 2024-2025, from 10.07.2024 to 12.07.2024 at new admin block, room no.105, SRMIST, Ramapuram. A total of 82 students have participated in this course. The first day session was inaugurated by Dr. M. Kamaraj, HoD and delivered his lecture on the “Overview of Biotechnology”. He has introduced the basics and various concepts of biotechnology field. He also briefed students about different branches of biotechnology. The session was followed by a lecture delivered by Dr. S. Suresh, Assistant professor on “Fundamentals of Enzymes and their Applications in Biotechnology”. He has explained an importance of bioenzymes and their impacts in the study of Biotechnology. The next session was then handled by Dr. G. Priya, Assistant Professor with her talk on “Recent Advances in Agricultural Biotechnology”. She has explained all basic and fundamental procedures and also introduced the students about the significance of agriculture biotechnology in our day-to-day life.
The second day session was started by Dr. G. Rajendran, Assistant Professor with his talk on “Advances and Applications of Plant Biotechnology”. He has detailed about the advancement in the field of Plant Biotechnology, and its various applications. He has also emphasized the plant tissue culture methods for production of disease free plants. The session was then handled by Dr. R.Vinoth Kumar, Assistant professor for his talk on “Applications of Biotechnology in Food Industry”. In his lecture, he has detailed about the application of biotechnology in food industry such as food preservation, bioprocessing food, food fermentation and advanced techniques with modern tool usage. The next session was followed by Dr. A. Ancy Jenifer with her talk on “Biotechnological Applications for Environmental Issues”. She has explained about basic and importance of biotechnological approach in maintenance of our environment for issues like pollution remediation through eco-friendly approach. The last day session was handled by Dr. R. Vidhya on the topic “Animal Cell Culture – Past, Present and Future”. She explained the importance of invitro cell culture studies and its pivotal role in pharmaceutical and biotechnological applications. Finally, this session was concluded by a lecture delivered by Mrs. N. Madhana Priya on “Bioinformatics”. She detailed her talk about the importance of learning bioinformatics/computational tools for biotechnology.
