On 12th August 2024, the Department of Visual Communication and Film Technology, Faculty of Science and Humanities at SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Ramapuram Campus, in collaboration with SS Music, hosted an insightful workshop titled “Editing for Impact: Techniques to Shape Your Narrative.” The event took place in the Preview Theater, located on the 6th Floor
of the PG Dental Block.
The workshop was led by renowned film editor, RK Selva, who has made significant contributions to the film industry with his expertise in editing. The event began with a warm welcome by Dr. C. Sundar, Dean/S&H and Dr. V. Prabakaran, Head \/ Media Studies. The aim
of the workshop was to equip students with essential film editing techniques that can significantly enhance storytelling. The focus was on how editing shapes the narrative, influences the audience’s perception, and contributes to the overall impact of a film.RK Selva provided
valuable insights into how various editing techniques can be used as powerful storytelling tools. The event also featured an interactive session where students had the opportunity to engage directly with RK Selva. During this session, students posed questions about the nuances of editing, the challenges faced during post-production, and the creative decisions that go into making impactful cuts. RK Selva shared his experiences from the industry, offering practical advice and encouraging students to think critically about their editing choices. The event was convened by Dr. V. Prabakaran, Head of Media Studies, co-convened by Ms. P. Yuvarani, Programme Coordinator, Viscom and coordinated by P.S.Padmavathy, Assistant Professor, Viscom.
