Workshop on “On Air: The Art of Radio Jockeying”
On August 29, 2024, the School of Media Studies, Department of Visual Communication at SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Ramapuram Campus, held a workshop titled “On Air: The Art of Radio Jockeying” in the Preview Theatre, 6th floor of the PG Dental Block.RJ Abinaya from 92.7 BIG FM was the chief guest, sharing her expertise with students on key aspects of radio jockeying, such as voice modulation, content creation, and the roles of various radio professionals. The event was convened by Dr. V. Prabakaran, Head of Media Studies, and co-convened by Ms. P. Yuvarani, Programme Coordinator for Visual Communication, with Ms. Sindhuja Sivaji, Assistant Professor of Visual Communication, serving as the staff coordinator.
During the session, RJ Abinaya guided students through the process of creating a radio show, offering insights into essential steps and considerations in radio production. She also discussed different radio time bands, like early morning and drive time, and conducted a SWOT analysis to help students better understand radio programming dynamics. The workshop concluded with an interactive Q&A session, where students gained further insights into the industry. Overall, the event was a success, equipping students with the knowledge and inspiration to pursue careers in radio.
