Guest of the Event: Dr.S.Ragunanthakumar, Associate Professor, Cancer and Stem Cell Research lab, Department of Pharmacology, Saveetha Dental College and Hospital, Chennai was invited as resource person for the Skill Development Program. His research expertise includes stem cell and regenerative medicines, Biomaterials, Small molecule for cancer therapy and cancer stem cell therapy. He completed PDF from India, USA, & Israel. He received many award including ICMR-SRF, Koleman-Sorreff fellowship-Israel, UGC Kothari PDF fellowship and published more than 30 research articles in reputed journals. He presented his research finding in various international and national conferences.

 

SUMMARY OF THE EVENT:

Department of Biotechnology, Faculty of Science and Humanities, SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Ramapuram, Chennai, organized “Skill Development Program on Animal cell culture – Methods and Applications” on 10.09.2024 at 2.30-3.30pm by online. The resource person explained and demonstrated about the key materials required for animal cell culture, media preparation and important parameters required for cell line maintenance, various cell culture based test and assay.  He also explained about ongoing research and facilities available in his lab.

OUTCOMES OF THE PROGRAM:

In view of SDG goals, the participants gained knowledge about basic requirements and designing of animal cell culture lab, different cell culture techniques and its applications in the production of valuable product like antibodies, hormones and so on.
