On January 20, 2025, the Department of Visual Communication & Film Technology at SRM Institute of Science & Technology, Ramapuram, organized an International Documentary Screening and Discussion featuring two acclaimed documentaries: “Dindigul Diaries” by Prof. Annette Danto from Brooklyn College, New York, and “In God We Trust” by Dr. Uma Vangal from IIFC, Chennai. The event took place at Gallery Hall I, Block 5, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 Noon. The screening offered students a unique opportunity to engage with thought-provoking narratives and gain exposure to global documentary filmmaking practices.
The discussion that followed was an insightful session where Prof. Danto and Dr. Vangal shared their expertise and experiences in the field of documentary filmmaking. They detailed the technical challenges faced during production, the creative process behind their works, and the importance of storytelling in shedding light on social realities. The session, guided by Convenor Dr. V. Prabakaran, Head, Media Studies, Co-convenor Ms. P. Yuvarani, Programme Coordinator, Viscom, and Staff Coordinators Mr. D. Saravanan, Asst. Prof/Viscom and Ms. B.K. Haripriya, Asst. Prof/Viscom, provided students with a clear documentary filmmaking, leaving them inspired and motivated to explore the genre further.
