SUMMARY OF THE EVENT:

The event was Organized by: Department of Fashion Designing, Faculty of Science and Humanities, SRM Ramapuram The Department of Fashion Designing at SRM Ramapuram organized a hands-on Dollmaking Workshop for 2nd-year fashion design students. The workshop took place on the 3rd of October, 2024, from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM in the Sewing Lab. This initiative was part of the department’s efforts to enhance the creativity and technical skills of the students by integrating unique and artistic projects into their curriculum.

 

On October 3, 2024, the Department of Fashion Designing at SRM Ramapuram hosted a hands-on Dollmaking Workshop aimed at enriching the creative and technical skills of second-year fashion design students. The workshop was held in the Sewing Lab from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM and was designed to integrate unique artistic projects into the students’ curriculum.

 

The primary objectives of the workshop included: Enhancing students’ creativity through hands-on crafting.Developing technical skills in sewing and design.Encouraging collaboration and idea sharing among students.Participants engaged in a variety of activities, including:Introduction to Dollmaking: An overview of techniques and materials.Hands-On Crafting Sessions: Students designed and created their own dolls, guided by experienced faculty members.Skill Development: Focus on sewing techniques, fabric selection, and embellishments.

 

The workshop successfully fostered a creative environment, allowing students to express their individuality through their doll designs. Feedback from participants highlighted:Increased confidence in sewing skills.Greater appreciation for textile arts.Enhanced teamwork and collaboration among peers.

 

The workshop was led by Dr. Anish Sharmila M, an Assistant Professor at the Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science, Chennai. With her expertise in fashion design and a particular focus on dollmaking as a niche craft, she brought an in-depth perspective to the students, encouraging them to explore new techniques and methodologies The major part of the workshop was dedicated to hands-on learning. Students were guided through the step-by-step process of creating their own dolls, from constructing the basic structure to adding intricate details such as facial features, clothing, and accessories.

The day concluded with a review of the students’ work, where Dr. Sharmila provided personalized feedback on each student’s creation, highlighting their creativity and areas for improvement.

 

The Dollmaking Workshop was a successful initiative that provided students with a valuable opportunity to explore a new dimension of fashion design. The combination of hands-on learning and expert guidance made this event a highlight of the academic calendar, and it is expected that students will apply these new skills in their upcoming design projects.

The Dollmaking Workshop was a resounding success, reflecting the Department of Fashion Designing’s commitment to innovative teaching methods and student engagement. This initiative not only nurtured the students’ creative talents but also provided valuable skills that will aid them in their future careers in fashion design
