SUMMARY OF THE EVENT:
Department of MBA, SRM Institute of Science and Technology had organized an Industrial visit to Parle-G Products Pvt Ltd. For MBA I year A section students on 14th Feb 2025 where students get insight into real organizational settings.
Parle – G Ltd has made a name for itself in the list of top-quality producers of biscuit in India. The company is located in Ommakulamedu, Madhavaram, Chennai and is one of the leading producers of biscuits.
In the visit, students understood the working of an organization through an Industrial visit. Theoretical knowledge along with real experience of organization help them making a remarkable career in any field. Students learn better in Industrial visits through interactions, working methods, product line, distribution channels and employment practices. During the Industrial visit, students interacted with the Managing director of Modern Bakers. He elaborated on the company’s manufacturing and distribution operations in detail. Parley is a corporate company established in 1934, with its headquarters in Mumbai. It has a total of 120 factory outlets, of which 100 are contract management units (CMU). It has a tie-up with parle Company to produce a product called Parle-G. Quality check, Taste check must be done before the distribution. There are no sales in the markets only distribution is done in this unit.
Processing Area:
The raw materials are wheat, sugar, invert syrup and milk powder. They mix everything to the proper consistency to make the final products. Cooling period – 5 minutes in cooling container. The temperature has four zones, from low to high, in zone 3, the biscuits colour changes. Packaging biscuits and it will be automatically batched. Machines used in a unit are Rotary machine for mixing, metal detectors, SVM wrapping machine for packaging, moisture stain damper for temperature control, Auto sealing. In Modern Bakers they manufacture 20 to 22 tons of biscuits per day.
Practical aspects of marketing, production, finance, customer relations management and Inventory Management helped students to understand FMCG sector in better way and apply different management tools for organizational learning such as BCG matrix, Five forces model etc. The visit was coordinated by Dr.P.Subha Arunachalam and Dr.P. Prasad Babu, Faculty of Management.
We are thankful to our faculties for organizing such an informative event for us in crucial to develop our practical skills regarding manufacturing process and supply chain management, and other managerial activities.
