The Department of Fashion Designing, Faculty of Science and Humanities, SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Ramapuram, successfully organized an Orientation Program on 11th July 2025. The objective of the event was to welcome newly admitted students, introduce them to the curriculum, industry trends, and career prospects, and inspire them through real-world insights from eminent experts in the fashion and textile industry.

This initiative was aligned with the institution’s goals to provide a holistic and industry-relevant education, and to promote Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) such as Quality Education (SDG 4), Decent Work and Economic Growth (SDG 8), Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure (SDG 9), and Sustainable Cities and Communities (SDG 11).

2. Resource Persons

The orientation program was graced by the presence of the following esteemed resource persons:

  • Radha Ramabhadran
    Apparel Industry Consultant
     Ms. Radha shared her vast experience in the apparel manufacturing sector, highlighting the importance of quality control, merchandising strategies, and industry expectations from budding designers.
  • K. Gopinath
    Textile Consultant, M/s. Texmedix Pvt. Ltd.
     Mr. Gopinath addressed the students on innovations in textiles, the evolving landscape of sustainable materials, and the significance of technical knowledge in fashion product development.
  • Sri Prashanthi Venugopal
    Fashion Designer / Stylist
     A young and dynamic designer, Ms. Prashanthi Venugopal shared her journey as a fashion stylist and entrepreneur. She encouraged students to explore their creative potential while staying updated with market trends and digital tools.

3. Event Highlights

  • The session began with a welcome address by the Head of the Department, who introduced the department’s vision, curriculum structure, and opportunities provided through industry linkages, workshops, and live projects.
  • Each speaker delivered a motivational and informative talk, followed by interactive Q&A sessions that allowed students to clear their doubts and seek career guidance.
  • The resource persons also highlighted the importance of interdisciplinary learning, sustainability in design, and the future of fashion in the digital age.

4. Outcome

The orientation program proved to be highly beneficial in setting the tone for the academic journey of first-year students. It instilled confidence and enthusiasm among the attendees while providing them with insights into industry practices and expectations. The event successfully bridged the gap between academics and industry and encouraged students to pursue innovation and excellence in the field of fashion.

The department extends heartfelt gratitude to the esteemed speakers, faculty members, and organizing team for their efforts in making the event a grand success. Special thanks to the Institution’s Innovation Council and the Management of SRMIST for their constant support in fostering such student-centric initiatives.

  • This goal focuses on making cities inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable. It supports eco-conscious living, responsible consumption, and sustainable design solutions that reduce urban waste and improve community well-being.
