1. Introduction
he purpose of this industrial visit was to provide students with hands-on exposure to the traditional art of handloom saree weaving. The visit aimed to enhance their understanding of the operational processes, including yarn selection, dyeing, warping, weaving techniques, and finishing. Additionally, students observed quality control measures, worker safety protocols, and environmental compliance within the unit.
Key Highlights of the Visit:
- Introduction to the Weaving Unit:
- The visit began with a brief introduction by the unit’s management about the legacy of Kanchipuram silk saree weaving and its significance in the textile
2. Raw Material Processing:
- Students learned about the selection of silk yarn and the pre-weaving treatments such as degumming and dyeing.
- The unit demonstrated the use of natural and synthetic dyes and their impact on fabric quality.
3. Weaving Techniques:
- The artisans showcased traditional handloom weaving techniques, including the intricate process of zari weaving.
- Students observed the role of the warp and weft mechanism in creating the signature motifs of Kanchipuram sarees.
