SUMMARY OF THE EVENT:
The Department of Commerce, Faculty of Science and Humanities, SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Ramapuram, organized a five-day Professional Skill Development Programme on the theme “Interdisciplinary Excellence: Integrating Tech, Ethics, and Creativity” from June 27, 2025, to July 3, 2025. The programme was designed to align with the vision of NEP 2020, focusing on multi-disciplinary education, integration of technology, ethical responsibility, and dual degree frameworks to prepare faculties and Research Scholars for dynamic academic and career environments.
Each day featured a distinguished resource person, who offered insights into the evolving landscape of interdisciplinary education.
Day 1: Holistic and Multi-disciplinary Education

Resource Person: Dr.K.Sathyamurthi,,Associate Professor & Head,PG Department of Social Work,(Aided) MSSW, Chennai
Dr.K.Sathyamurthi commenced the programme by explaining the core objectives of NEP 2020 and its emphasis on breaking the rigid boundaries between academic disciplines. He emphasized student-centric, holistic learning models and discussed innovative pedagogy fostering critical thinking and creativity. He also presented practical models and success stories from leading academic institutions.
Day 2: Tech-Infused Interdisciplinary Learning

Resource Person: Prof.Dr.S.Rathika, Vice Principal, Prince Dr.K.Vasudevan College of engineering and technology, Chennai.
Prof.Dr.S.Rathika engaged participants in a discussion on integration of emerging technologies like AI, Virtual Reality, and Data Analytics in classroom settings. She discussed how these tools can create engaging, collaborative, and interdisciplinary learning environments. The importance of digital literacy among both educators and learners was highlighted through real-time examples and global case studies.
Day 3: Building Educational Cohesion – Vertical and Horizontal Integration

Dr. R. Premalatha elaborated on the twin concepts of horizontal and vertical integration in curriculum design. Horizontal integration was discussed in terms of synergy between disciplines, while vertical integration was shown to enhance depth and continuity in learning. He emphasized on curriculum mapping, institutional alignment, and shared strategies for structured interdisciplinary planning.
Day 4: Ethical Engagement and Interdisciplinary Responsibility

Dr Sivapragasam addressed the growing need for ethical responsibility in interdisciplinary collaboration. She discussed key principles such as integrity, inclusivity, and accountability. Her session emphasized how ethics should guide innovation, shaping not just projects but institutional policies as well. Participants engaged in reflective exercises to balance technological advancement with moral responsibility.
Day 5: Interdisciplinary Dual Degree Programme

St. Joseph’s College Autonomous. Tiruchirappalli
Dr.M.Julias Ceasar,concluded the series with a comprehensive overview of dual degree programmes and their interdisciplinary advantages. He presented successful models from international universities, discussed policy frameworks, credit transfer mechanisms, and how such programmes enhance employability and cross-domain competence. He stressed the importance of flexibility and customized curriculum design for future-ready learners.
