Day 1 – 17th July 2025
Topic: Introduction to Income Tax – Overview
Resource Person: CA. Sridhar Ganesh, Chartered Accountant, FCA, MBA, DISA(CA)
The workshop commenced with an inaugural session led by the Chief Guest, CA. Sridhar Ganesh, who emphasized the significance of tax literacy in building responsible citizenship. The first session, delivered by CA Sridhar Ganesh, introduced the basic concepts of the Income Tax Act, 1961, its scope, structure, and significance. He explained the difference between direct and indirect taxes, tax authorities. The participants gained clarity on the applicability of income tax and its constitutional foundation.


Day 2 – 18th July 2025
Topic: Heads of Income – Salary
Resource Person: CA. Karthika Saipriya Suresh, B.Com., ACA
On the second day, CA. Karthika Saipriya Suresh delivered a detailed session on the computation of income under the “Salary” head. Key areas such as allowances, perquisites, retirement benefits, and exemptions under Section 10 were explained with examples. The session helped participants understand Form 16 and TDS implications for salaried individuals


Day 3 – 21st July 2025
Topic: House Property and Capital Gains
Resource Person: CA. K. Gomathi, Indirect Tax Expert, Entrepreneur
Day three focused on income from house property and capital gains. CA K. Gomathi explained the treatment of self-occupied and let-out properties, standard deductions, and interest on housing loans. For capital gains, the resource person elaborated on short-term and long-term gains, indexation, exemptions under sections 54 and 54F, and capital loss adjustments. Practical tax-saving tips were also discussed.


Day 4 – 22nd July 2025
Topic: Income from Business/Profession & Other Sources
Resource Person: CA. R. Prithive, Chartered Accountant, FCA
The fourth session covered income from business or profession, including presumptive taxation, allowable expenses, and maintenance of books of accounts. CA R. Prithive also explained income from other sources such as gifts, dividends, and lottery winnings. The clarity on clubbing and set-off of losses was particularly beneficial for commerce students and aspiring tax practitioners.


Day 5 – 23rd July 2025
Topic: Clubbing of Incomes and Rebates
Resource Person: CA. Sathyanarayanan Srinivasan, Chartered Accountant
CA Sathyanarayanan explained the concept of clubbing of incomes under Sections 60 to 64. The rules for including income of spouses, minor children, and transfer of assets were illustrated through case laws. He also discussed various tax rebates and deductions under Sections 87A, 80C to 80U, and their impact on tax liability.


Day 6 – 24th July 2025
Topic: Filing of Income Tax Returns
Resource Person: CA. Shanmugapriya, IFCA, M.Com.
On the final day, the session focused on practical filing of income tax returns using ITR forms. CA Shanmugapriya walked the participants through e-filing procedures, verification, due dates, consequences of late filing, and rectification options. The workshop concluded with a demonstration of the online portal and key points on documentation required for filing returns.
