Objective of the Event
This industrial visit aimed to explore the students about the large-scale industrial production of food products.

Synopsis of the Event

The Department of Biotechnology, SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Ramapuram has organized an industrial visit for the I- and II-year M.Sc. students to International Bakery Products Limited (a manufacturing facility for Britannia Industries Ltd.) on 26th July 2025. Upon arrival, the initial briefing was conducted by the safety manager and the plant supervisor, who outlined the company’s operations and emphasized essential safety protocols required within the manufacturing unit. The plant consists of three production units: two in the old wing focusing on standard baked cookies, and a modern production line for chocolate-filled cookies in the new plant. This visit was focused on the cookie manufacturing line and the plant supervisor explained each stage in detail. In the depositor area, the dough was prepared by mixing all ingredients used for cookies. The dough was then shaped and placed onto conveyor belts for the baking process. In the oven area, the shaped dough passes through the Meincke Turbu tunnel oven, which comprises four zones. Each zone was equipped with precise temperature and moisture controls, ensuring uniform baking of the cookies. After baking, cookies were cooled on the conveyor belts and then processed to the packaging area. Packaging was largely done automated. Throughout the visit, strict adherence to food safety, hygiene, and good manufacturing practices was maintained.
