BRIEF PROFILE OF THE SPEAKERS:
Ms. JAYASREE. S is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Commerce (Accounting & Finance). She holds a Master’s degree in Commerce and has submitted her Ph.D. thesis, with her research interests focused on Marketing. Specialized in Accounting and Marketing, she brings a unique blend of knowledge to the classroom. With a fresh perspective and enthusiasm, she provides valuable insights to her students.
Ms. S. KIRUBA SORNA MARY is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Commerce (Accounting & Finance). She is a qualified NET holder with a Master’s degree in Commerce. With expertise in Cost Accounting and Income Tax, she effectively teaches these subjects to her students. With one year of teaching experience, she brings practical knowledge and a teaching approach that benefits her students.
SUMMARY OF THE EVENT:
A Career Awareness program named “Exploring the Horizons in Commerce” has been conducted for Brand building in Sri Sitaram Vidyalaya Matriculation Higher Secondary School , West Mambalam, Chennai-33 on 25th June 2025 between 10 a.m. to 1.30 p.m..
This program was organized for XI and XII Commerce School students to give deeper understanding about the subject “Commerce” and the career options associated with it.
Program sessions
1. Commerce and its Importance in Today’s World:
Ms. Jayasree. S, Assistant Professor, began the session by interacting with the students on “Commerce and its Importance in Today’s World.” She highlighted the functions of Commerce and emphasized how Commerce plays a key role in the economy and everyday decision-making.
2. Accounting – The Language of Business
Ms. S. Kiruba Sorna Mary, Assistant Professor, delivered an engaging session on “Accounting – The Language of Business,” explaining how vital accounting is in understanding business operations and financial health. This topic has been included as it is a part of students’ curriculum.
3. Career Guidance cum Brand building
Both the faculty members provided insights on various specialized courses available in commerce apart from the general stream and other professional courses. They gave an overview of the specializations offered at SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Ramapuram Campus. The students were also informed about the teaching methods employed at SRM Institute of Science and Technology, which focus on interactive learning and student participation. Specifically the teaching methods adopted during the session involved:
- Interactive Questioning: Students were asked questions, and their responses were used to build the topic.
- Student-centered Approach: Every student was encouraged to participate and interact with the facilitators.
This approach enabled the students to engage actively with the subject matter and develop a deeper understanding of Commerce and Accounting concepts.
4. Quiz Program
To make the session interactive, the team conducted fun games focused on identifying accounting terms, which sparked excitement and engagement among students. As a small token of appreciation, gifts were distributed to the winners of the game.
5. Q&A segment
Students actively came forward and asked doubts related to commerce courses and career paths.
The program concluded with motivational words, encouraging the students to excel in their board examinations and wishing them the best for their future. The event was well-received, and the students actively participated throughout the session.
