Session 1: Understanding Lingerie Wear – Ms. P. Ponmani (Naidu Hall)

Ms. P. Ponmani, Head of Training at Naidu Hall, opened the session with an enlightening talk on the topic of lingerie wear. Her session covered:

Introduction to lingerie – Acknowledging it as an essential and personal part of every woman’s wardrobe.

Importance of wearing appropriate lingerie for comfort, hygiene, and confidence.

Types of innerwear – Bras, panties, shapewear, camisoles, and sports bras, including their suitability for different age groups and body types.

Need for awareness – Addressing the common issues faced due to ill-fitting lingerie and the importance of educating women from adolescence.

How to choose the best lingerie – Considering fabric, functionality, body shape, and occasion.

Evolution of lingerie styles – From beginner stages (training bras) to adult needs (maternity and functional lingerie).

Emphasis on breaking taboos and starting conversations around innerwear, especially for young girls and teenagers.

Her session was interactive and filled with real-life examples, product handling, and Q&A, which made it informative and relatable for students.

Session 2: Self-Care, Community & Sustainability – Goonj Representatives

Ms. Anisha Baura – Tamil Nadu Chapter Lead, Goonj

Anisha Baura’s session focused on emotional and social aspects of self-care, drawing attention to:

Self-realization and self-love as foundations of well-being.

Educating women to prioritize themselves, their health, and their identity.

The role of men in supporting and understanding women, advocating for equality and empathy in gender dynamics.

Introduction to Goonj’s Upcycling Initiative – Collecting and repurposing used clothes for social good.

Encouraging students to become part of community practices through volunteering, internships, and fellowship opportunities with Goonj.

Cultural immersion and grassroots exposure that broaden perspectives and nurture empathy.

Her talk inspired students to engage with the community meaningfully and become ambassadors of sustainable living and social change.

Ms. Divya Kurian – Setu Fellow, Goonj

Divya Kurian emphasized the concept of “Love Yourself – Care for Yourself”, encouraging young women to embrace:

Menstrual hygiene education, especially the need to break the silence around menstruation.

Common myths and taboos surrounding periods and how they affect self-worth and health.

Sustainable menstrual practices – Introduction to cloth-based menstrual pads and their environmental benefits.

The social and economic impact of accessible hygiene solutions and how students can contribute to change.

The importance of normalizing conversations around menstruation and emotional well-being.

Divya’s warm and inclusive approach made the students feel safe to share and connect, creating a positive environment for self-expression and learning.

Conclusion:

The seminar was a resounding success, bringing together expert knowledge, emotional empowerment, and a strong sense of social responsibility. It highlighted how intimate care is both personal and collective, shaping not only health but also dignity, confidence, and community consciousness.

The students responded with enthusiasm and curiosity, actively participating in discussions and expressing interest in future collaborations with Goonj and Naidu Hall.

This initiative by the Department of Fashion Designing once again proved its commitment to gender-sensitive education, sustainable awareness, and student empowerment.

  • This goal aimed to create awareness among students about women’s intimate health, self-care, menstrual hygiene, and community responsibility.
