Event Highlights

The Department of English & Other Foreign Languages organized a two-day Orientation Program for the first-year B.A. English students on 10th and 11th July 2025. The program was held in Block V, Room No: 400, and witnessed enthusiastic participation from the newly admitted batch of students.

The sessions focused on academic awareness, institutional culture, campus facilities, personal development, and future career opportunities.

Key sessions included:

  • Dr. Jabeela Shirlin J. gave a comprehensive introduction to the department with the topic “Who Are We? An Overview of EFL”.
  • Mr. P. Arul Selvam, Industry Expert, provided insights into the corporate world and job preparedness.
  • Ms. Annama Reddy Chamundeswari, Student Counsellor, addressed the issue of “Preventing Smartphone Addiction”.
  • Dr. S. Shanmuganathan, Campus Life Coordinator, spoke about the vibrant student life at SRM.
  • Mr. Xavier Raja Durai, from PRIME IAS Academy, delivered an inspiring talk on “Dream Big, Serve Bigger: The Power of Government”.
  • Mr. R. Ragunath, Physical Director, emphasized the “Importance of Physical Fitness”.
  • Dr. Abraham Benjamin Samuel, Associate Director – International Relations, inspired students to think globally with the topic “The World is Your Lab”.
  • Mr. Monish Raaj, Placement Officer, offered a career-centric session.
  • Ms. Sherine Nachiya, an alumna from the 2019–2022 batch, shared her experiences and journey.

The Orientation helped students transition smoothly into college life, instilling a sense of belonging, motivation, and academic enthusiasm. It also aligned with Sustainable Development Goals including Quality Education, Good Health and Well-being, and Decent Work and Economic Growth.
