SUMMARY OF THE EVENT:
The Department of Commerce (Shift I), in collaboration with the National Service Scheme (NSS) of SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Faculty of Science and Humanities, organized an outreach program titled “Hearts in Harmony – Old Age Home Visit” on 6th August 2025 at Akshaya Trust, Valasaravakkam. The program was a part of the institution’s commitment to social responsibility and community welfare. The event commenced with a warm welcome and introduction by Sri Harishne, a second-year B.Com student, who highlighted the significance of social engagement initiatives undertaken by SRMIST. The faculty members, along with NSS volunteers, actively participated in the program by engaging the elderly residents in a series of joyful and meaningful activities such as singing performances, poetry recitations, and fun-filled games. These interactions were aimed at spreading happiness, offering companionship, and creating a cheerful environment for the elderly. The program concluded with the distribution of essential items and heartfelt conversations, leaving behind smiles and cherished memories for the residents. This initiative aligned with key Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) including No Poverty (SDG 1), Good Health and Well-being (SDG 3), Quality Education (SDG 4), and Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions (SDG 16).
