Summary of the Event

The Awareness on Khadi event was organized as part of the National Level Khadi Mahotsav – 2024 to promote the values of self-reliance, sustainability, and indigenous craftsmanship associated with Khadi. The event aimed to create awareness among students about the historical, cultural, and environmental significance of Khadi in contemporary fashion and lifestyle.

The program commenced with an inaugural address highlighting Mahatma Gandhi’s vision of Khadi as a symbol of freedom and empowerment. Eminent speakers from the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), along with local artisans and textile experts, shared insights into the evolution of Khadi—from its origins in India’s freedom movement to its modern-day relevance in sustainable fashion. Demonstrations on spinning (charkha operation) and natural dyeing processes were also conducted to provide students with a practical understanding of Khadi production.

Students actively participated in discussions and in competions expressing great enthusiasm for the craftsmanship behind handspun and handwoven fabrics. The event concluded with a display of Poster designed by the students, showcasing innovative ways to integrate traditional textiles with modern fashion sensibilities.
