Details of Discussions and Outcomes
We had the distinct privilege of engaging in a deep-dive conversation with Prof. Kalai Mathee, MSc, PhD, MPH, FRSB, a renowned microbiologist, passionate educator, and an influential advocate for integrating science with art. The interaction was intellectually enriching and profoundly inspiring.
Prof. Mathee shared her remarkable journey through the realms of molecular microbiology, public engagement, and creative outreach, highlighting her groundbreaking research on Pseudomonas aeruginosa and antimicrobial resistance (AMR). Her commitment to addressing global health challenges was evident through her innovative initiatives such as the AMR Dictionary and Art Meets Science, which aim to make complex scientific concepts accessible to the wider public.
What stood out most was her ability to translate dense microbiological knowledge into visually engaging and interactive formats, fostering public understanding through curated exhibits, DNA installations, and community-driven discussions on health equity. Her work exemplifies the true potential of transdisciplinary approaches in science communication.
This session with Prof. Mathee was more than an academic exchange—it was a compelling reminder of how science must extend beyond the laboratory into dialogue, trust-building, and inclusion. We express our heartfelt gratitude to Prof. Kalai Mathee for her time, insights, and for illuminating the path toward a more socially responsible and creatively inspired scientific future.
