INTRODUCTION
The Department of Commerce (PA, JSM, IAF), Faculty of Science and Humanities, SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Ramapuram, organised Earth Day where it is celebrated every year on April 22 to create awareness about protecting our environment and preserving natural resources for future generations. On this meaningful occasion, our institution organized an outreach programme titled “Plant a tree today, let the Earth breathe tomorrow.” The main objective of the programme was to encourage environmental responsibility and highlight the importance of trees in maintaining ecological balance.
OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME
1. To create awareness about the importance of protecting the environment and conserving natural resources.
2. To encourage tree plantation and promote greenery for a healthier ecosystem.
3. To educate the public and students on reducing pollution and maintaining cleanliness.
4. To motivate individuals to adopt eco-friendly habits such as saving water and reducing plastic use.
5. To develop a sense of social responsibility and community participation in building a sustainable future.
OUTREACH PROGRAMME DETAILS
In connection with Earth Day, an outreach programme was successfully conducted at Ramapuram Lake Park with the theme of environmental protection and sustainable living. The programme aimed to create awareness among students and the public about the importance of preserving nature and maintaining a clean and green environment.As part of the event, students, faculty members, and volunteers actively participated in a tree plantation drive within the park premises. Saplings were planted to promote greenery and improve the ecological balance of the area. Participants also took part in a cleanliness activity by removing waste materials and spreading awareness on proper waste disposal.An awareness session was conducted highlighting the significance of Earth Day, the role of trees in reducing pollution, conserving water resources, and protecting biodiversity. The public visiting the park were encouraged to adopt eco-friendly practices such as reducing plastic usage, saving water, and planting more trees.
