Summary of the Event

As part of the National Level Khadi Mahotsav – 2024, a Poster Making Competition on the theme “Khadi for Nation, Khadi for Fashion” was organized to promote awareness about the significance of Khadi in modern India. The event aimed to highlight the cultural, economic, and sustainable value of Khadi, encouraging students to explore its relevance in contemporary fashion and national identity. The competition witnessed enthusiastic participation from students across various departments. Participants creatively expressed their thoughts through visually appealing posters depicting Khadi as a symbol of self-reliance, sustainability, and style. The event served as a platform for young designers and artists to blend traditional aesthetics with modern design sensibilities, reinforcing Khadi’s importance in the nation’s progress.

Judges evaluated the entries based on creativity, theme relevance, message clarity, and artistic execution. The best posters were appreciated for their originality and conceptual depth. The event concluded with the announcement of winners and distribution of certificates, celebrating the students’ innovative perspectives and efforts in promoting Khadi.

As a result, the shift toward sustainable fabrics like Khadi helps prevent microplastic pollution and chemical runoff that threaten marine ecosystems. By advocating for eco-friendly production and conscious consumption, the event supports cleaner oceans and healthier aquatic life.

 

SDG 15: Life on Land

The promotion of Khadi aligns strongly with SDG 15 – Life on Land, which focuses on protecting, restoring, and promoting sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems. Khadi is hand-spun and handwoven using natural fibers like cotton, silk, and wool, which rely on organic and sustainable farming practices. Encouraging its use reduces dependency on synthetic, resource-intensive materials that harm soil health and biodiversity. Through this event, students learned about Khadi’s role in preserving traditional livelihoods, conserving natural resources, and supporting rural artisans, contributing to ecosystem balance and sustainable livelihoods on land.
