The Department of Biotechnology has organized the first-year orientation program for the first-year B.Sc., Biotechnology students (Batch: 2022-2025) on 18th, August 2022 at S-block, SRMIST, Ramapuram. A total of 46 students participated in this program. The first session of this event was inaugurated by Dr. M. Kamaraj, HOD (i/c) with his formal speech on the overview of the department of Biotechnology, CSH, SRMIST, Ramapuram. He introduced all the department faculties to the first-year students and briefed them about the resources and facilities available at the department. He also explained to the students about the vision and mission statement of the institute and the department.

This session was followed by the guest talk on ‘Biotechnology: A branch way for Aquaculture and Fisheries’ and the guest, Mr. Mariyaraj Vijay, is a founder and CEO of Arcanoe Life Sciences and Arcanoe Laboratories, India. The felicitation was given by our Head of the Department (i/c), Dr. M. Kamaraj. Mr. Mariyaraj Vijay addressed the gathering by sharing his experiences/journey in the application of biotechnology in the Aquaculture and Fisheries industries. He also briefed the students about the career opportunities available in such industries and motivated the students to become entrepreneurs. The first-year students were inspired by his speech and got new hopes and expectations from the department.

The next segment was the Alumni talk by Ms. M. Pavithra (Batch: 2019-2022) who has motivated the students on various co-curricular and extra-curricular activities available in the institute. She also has shared her experiences, challenges, and future scope and opportunities in the biotechnology industry. The final session of the event was mediated by Dr. R. Vinoth Kumar, Assistant Professor of the department. His talk on ‘A guide to B.Sc., Biotechnology course’. He has explained to the freshers about the curriculum, syllabus, periodic assessment details, and the guidelines which all the students should follow on campus. He has also elaborated to the students about other extracurricular activities which they can explore. All the sessions were very energetic and interactive which ended with a vote of thanks by Dr. R. Vinoth Kumar, Assistant Professor of the department.
