TECHNICAL SESSION – Mrs Goushalya Kothai Nachiar- Analytics & Data Science Practitioner

Mrs Goushalya Kothai started her address with an introduction of the theme and today agenda. She then explained about the importance of Data Science- Data science is an inter-disciplinary field that uses scientific methods, processes, algorithms and systems to extract knowledge and insights from structured and unstructured data, and apply knowledge and actionable insights from data across a broad range of application domains.
She then discussed about
What is data? – What is AI? – That basically means data that lives in a giant spreadsheet, and the techniques for dealing with unstructured data are little bit different than the techniques for dealing with structured data. But AI techniques can work very well for both of these types of data, unstructured data and structured data.
She then explained about the Impact of digital transformation- Digital Transformation is the adoption of digital technology to transform services or businesses, through replacing non-digital or manual processes with digital processes or replacing older digital technology with newer digital technology. She also highlighted the various companies that have gained a lot in the years 2010 and 2020 by adhering to digital transformation.
In addition she stated about Drivers of digital transformation-
- Customer expectations continue to rise.
- SPEED is more important than ever
- AI is front and center
She concluded her speech by explaining about
- AI is influencing our decisions—more apps we use, more data we get through this and we have to handle the data in such a way that it can be used later for processing.
- Problem domain + approach= Technology solution
- Fuel of digital transformation-Data- How much data is generated on an average day? How much data you send/receive in your mobile phone everyday?
- How Push notifications are attracting the individuals?
- She explained about how many activities are going on in a given time-with a web browser
- Different technologies that overlap in digital transformation
- The data science can be used in the following applications like
- Data analytics type—More phones were sold in pandemic due to Impact of online classes. Using this we can predict, how many mobiles will be sold in April 2021?
Then the session was opened to the students for clarification of their queries. The entire session was very helpful for the students
