The Department of Physics, SRM IST, Ramapuram campus was established in the year of 2004. The department offers Physics and Materials Science with laboratory for various disciplines of UG Programme. The course includes the areas of modern physics and nanotechnology, to enrich professionals in science and technology.

Highly motivated and well qualified faculty members are the backbone of the Department. Our faculty members are dynamically involved in research and published more than 120 research papers in International Journals in the last 5 years. The department has been recognized as a research department and research scholars are pursuing their Ph.D programme. The department has been approved with 4 research projects funded by DST-SERB and the management to the tune of more than Rs.80 lakhs. Active research is being carried out in the field of X-ray Crystallography / Crystallographic studies on drug molecules, Dielectric Studies, Crystal Growth, Electronic structure of materials, Nanomaterials and Ceramic compounds, and Nonlinear Dynamics.

  • There are three research laboratories in the department- Crystal Growth, Multiferroics and Computational Physics Laboratory.
  • Faculty Members have published 80 papers in SCI/SCOPUS Indexed Journals in the last 3 years.

  • Organized 6 National Workshops on Materials Characterization Techniques, Renewable Energy Resources funded by Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Government of India and Workshop on Indian Nuclear Programme in association with IGCAR, Kalpakkam.
  • Organized Refresher Courses, Guest Lectures, Mini Project Contests and Science, Engineering & Technology Exhibition in association with TNSTC, Chennai for young budding students.
