The Department of Biotechnology, College of Science and Humanities at SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Ramapuram campus, Chennai proudly organized the two-day international conference on “Biotechnological Emergence in Science and Technology” (ICBEST – 2022) in a hybrid mode. The theme of the conference was to provide a wide platform for researchers across the world to share their research findings in the diverse area of biotechnology.
The conference was inaugurated on 05.10.2023, at 09.30 am and Dr. M. Kamaraj, HoD, Department of Biotechnology (S&H), SRM IST- Ramapuram welcomed the dignitaries and participants of the conference. The presidential address was delivered by Major. Dr. M. Venkatramanan, Dean (S&H), SRM IST- Ramapuram and Dr. S. Suresh, Assistant Professor, Department of Biotechnology, SRM IST – Ramapuram detailed about the conference. Prof.Dr. Ling Shing Wong, Professor and Pro Vice-Chancellor INTI International University, Malaysia presented the ‘Inaugural address’. The conference proceeding of ICBEST – 2.0 was released by the dignitaries. Vote of thanks for this inaugural event was delivered by the Organizing secretary Dr. G. Priya, Assistant Professor, Department of Biotechnology, SRM IST – Ramapuram.
The Plenary Session for day 1 was delivered Prof. Dr. Ling Shing Wong, Professor and Pro Vice-Chancellor INTI International University, Malaysia on ‘Biotechnology: The Landscape Changer In Science And Technology’. The plenary session II was given by Tijjani Sabiu Imam, Associate Professor, Applied Ecology & Environmental Biology, Biological Sciences Department, Bayero University, Kano, Nigeria on ‘Application of Biotechnology in Pollution Control’. The 3rd plenary session, was delivered by Dr. Saravanan Ramiah Shanmugam, Assistant Research Professor, Department of Biosystems Engineering, Auburn University, Auburn, AL, USA on “Thermochemical And Biochemical Valorization Of Lignocellulosic Biomass ”.
Day 2 of ICBEST – 2.0 commenced online with a ‘Plenary talk’ by Sara Forlani, Organismal and Evolutionary Biology Research Program, Faculty of Biological and Environmental Sciences, University of Helsinki, Helsinki, Finland on “HEBE, A Novel NAC Transcription Factor Involved in Leaf Senescence In Tomato”. The next plenary session was delivered by Dr.S.Renganathan, Professor, Department of Biotechnology, Anna University, Chennai-25, Tamilnadu, India on “Production of Biodiesel From Marine Macro Algae”. He also acted as a Chief Guest for the valedictory session of ICBEST-2.0.
More than 50 numbers of presentations were delivered by participants from diverse parts of India. There were 32 oral presentations in both online and offline modes with 50 participants participating in it. Moreover, 21 poster presentations also were conducted. The prizes for the winners of the awards, such as the SRM ICBEST’2.0 Young Scientist Award, Young Researcher Award, and Best Oral and poster presentations were awarded by the Chief Guest during the valedictory session. The participants expressed their positive feedback to the ICBEST-2.0.
