On March 8, 2023, the Department of Visual Communication, SRM IST Ramapuram celebrated International Women’s Day!

‘Women are never weak because God has made them strong in every sense.’ Only a woman can almost die and give birth at the same time. Be proud to be a woman. Happy Women’s Day!

In honour of this day, Department of Visual Communication, SRM IST Ramapuram hosted an intercollege painting competition for girl students from various colleges and universities. The event started at 9.00 am at Gallery Hall, 1st floor, Block 5 with the inauguration ceremony. Actor and Newsreader, Saranya Turadi was invited as a guest to inaugurate the function in the presence of College dignitaries, Dean M.Venkataramanan(S&H), VP Academics and HOD/Viscom Dr V. Prabakaran, by lighting up the Kuthuvillaku, and distributing the painting materials to the participants.

More than 150 girl students from 30 different colleges and universities in and around Chennai participated in this competition to prove their talents and exhibit their innovative ideas through their paintings. Girl students from various streams have participated in our event, including Medical, Dental, Law and Science and Arts colleges. The theme of this painting competition was UNTITLED,  as our aim is to encourage girl students to express themselves and showcase their talent through art.

The competition was judged by a panel of experienced artists and art enthusiasts. The top three winners received the trophies, while all participants received certificates of participation.

We were thrilled to provide a platform for girl students to showcase their creativity and express themselves through art. At the same time, we have launched a new women’s safety app that will help women feel safe and secure wherever they go. Women’s safety is a critical issue that needs to be addressed. By launching this app in association with Techjays, we hope to raise awareness about women’s safety and empower women to take control of their lives.

Techjays is a software solution company, from conceptualisation and business analysis, prototyping and development, to the deployment of a total solution,  they guide the full cycle of digital product development. The world runs on relationships. To empower women, children and elderly individuals to feel safe and supported by their loved ones, they came out with a great idea that turned into a mobile app, ShieldUp – a safety app.

The ShieldUp safety app launch ceremony commenced at 3.00 pm, 1st floor Gallery Hall in the presence of our chief guest, Kalaimamani Shri Nirmala Periyasamy, Dean S&H, Major Dr. M. Venkataramanan, VP Academics and our HOD DR. V. Prabakaran and Techjays team. Followed by the prize distribution to the winners of the Painting Competition and the valedictory ceremony.

And this time, students from SOEL college won the 1st prize, the Institute of Science won the 2nd prize and Loyola college won the 3rd in the other college category. In the SRM college category, the students from B.com won all three places.
