Expert talk :“On The Sample Survey ” as part of National Statistics day
- The National Statistics day is celebrated on 29th June in honour of the birth anniversary of famous statistician Prof. P.C.Mahanalobis who has been called the father of modern statistics for his enormous contribution towards the field.
- The day is celebrated to popularize and spread awareness among the masses about the importance of Statistics in daily life.
- To celebrate National Statistics day, the Department of Mathematics, SRM IST, Ramapuram has organized an expert talk on the topic ” On The Sample Survey ” on 29.06.2021 for faculty members, research scholars and students.

Dr. Girish Chandra began his talk by paying tribute to Prof. P.C. Mahalanobis and other statisticians whose contributions have been vital in the field of statistics. His talk covered sampling methods , adaptive cluster sampling, ranked set sampling which are also the most widely used sampling methods.
He gave an elaborate study of how statistical methods are being used in forestry research and development.
The talk focussed on comparison of results obtained by various sampling methods . More than 120 participants, took part in the program.The participants interacted and sought expert advise on sampling methods.
