ONLINE WORKSHOP ON BASIC HAND EMBROIDERY
Department of Fashion designing, SRM Institute of Science and Humanities, Ramapuram organizing an 5 days online workshop for School students from 21 and 25th of June 2021. Around 25 school students from various region of Tamil Nadu and Kerala registered for for the workshop. Ms Chinnu Babu , Assistant Professor delivered the welcome address. Day 1 was handled by Ms R. Malathy , Head Department of Fashion Designing. She had delivered an introductory note about the Department and about the lab facilities available in the college. Next to that workshop was started with an introductory note about the basic hand embroidery and things required for hand embroidery. then how to fix the frame and 4 basic hand embroidery stitches working procedure was explained. Day 1 ended with doubt clearing and interactive session. Day 2 (22.06.21) was handled by Ms. Chinnu Babu , Assistant professor, Department of Fashion Designing.
Revised the yesterday session and started with explaining the working procedure of chain stitch, magic chain stitch, lazy daisy stitch, French knot and closed stitch. Many designs where shown and explained about the stitches done in that embroiderey. Day 2 is ended with doubt clearing and an interactive session.
Day 3 (23.06.21) was handled by Ms. Chinnu Babu , Assistant professor, Department of Fashion Designing.
Revised the yesterday session and started with explaining the working procedure of feather stitch, fly stitch, Herring bone stitch, double Herring bone stitch, button hole stitch, double button hole stitch, Chamki work and satin stitch. Many designs where shown and explained about the stitches done in that embroidery. Day 3 is ended with doubt clearing and an interactive session.
Day 3 (24.06.21) was handled by Ms. R.Malathy , Assistant professor SG / Head, Department of Fashion Designing.
Revised the yesterday session and started with explaining the working procedure of Pekinese stitch , spider web stitch , heavy chain stitch , Wheat stitch , couching stitch and chevron stitch. Many designs where shown and explained about the stitches done in that embroidery. Day 3 is ended with doubt clearing and an interactive session.
Day 5 (25.06.21) was handled by Ms. ChinnuBabu, Assistant professor, Department of Fashion Designing.
Revised the yesterday session and started with explaining the working procedure of different traditional embroideries, their origin, motifs and techniques used. Many designs were shown and explained about the stitches done in that embroidery. List of traditional embroidery discussed are kutch work, phulkari embroidery, kantha work and chickankari work.

He highly appreciated the initiative and the efforts taken by each and every faculty member. He discussed about the passion and career in Fashion Designing field.

He shared many information about the fashion designing and textile industry and its scope for the participants. He praised the faculty members for conducting 5 days online workshop on Basic Hand embroidery.

Feed back was given by the participants that they enjoyed the whole workshop session and staffs cleared the doubts even after the workshop time . overall participants learnt many basic hand embroidery stitches
