Workshop on Contemporary German and Tamil Cinema:

Similarities, Styles and Synergies

 

The Department of Visual Communication, in collaboration with Goethe-Institut, the cultural institute of the Federal Republic of Germany, organized a two-day workshop titled “Contemporary German and Tamil Cinema: Similarities, Styles, and Synergies” on October 5th and 6th, 2023.

On the first day of the workshop, a Film Appreciation session of the movie “KD,” directed by Madhumita Sundararaman, was held at the Preview Theatre, 6th floor, PG Dental Block. Dr. Uma Vangal, the Dean of the International Institute of Film and Culture, was the esteemed resource person for this occasion. The session commenced at 10 AM with the welcome address delivered by Dr. V. Prabhakaran, HOD Viscom. The session proved to be highly engaging and inspirational for the students.

On the second day of the workshop, a film screening of German movie “Sommerhäuser” by Sonja Maria Kröner followed by an interactive session with Film Experts took place at the Goethe-Institut, located in Nungambakkam. Students, accompanied by faculty members, made a trip to this venue to participate in the session. The session, enriched by the expertise of Mr. Avinash Ramachandran and Ms. Ashameera Aiyappan, featured captivating writing exercises and extensive discussions, providing students with profound insights into the intricate aspects of filmmaking. The workshop was successfully coordinated by Ms. P.S. Padmavathy, Mr. B. Saravanan, and Ms. Haripriya B.K, Assistant Professors of Viscom Department.
